New Weight Watchers plan coming for November 2022!

Read on for all the latest news on the new WW plan that is due to roll out sometime in November.

*Update- November 14th, 2022. The new WW program has rolled out in the U.S today. If you are not seeing the update yet in your App then wait a bit and try again. Remember everyone is trying to update at the same time so it can get a bit backed up. For my fellow Canadians, there is no exact date yet for when our Apps will update. I would think based on previous years and updates that it will be soon, maybe later this week or next week.

*Disclaimer- I am not affiliated with Weight Watchers in any way, all information in this post I was able to find on the internet.

Ok, Ok.. I know! Many of you might be yelling at your screens right now, just don’t yell at me ha-ha, I’m simply the messenger. There has been a lot of talk this last week about the new Weight Watchers plan coming next month.  It is no secret that typically every 2-3 years they like to make changes to their program. Sometimes the change is big and sometimes it is just a slight tweak on the current plan.

It was only last year, November 2021 that the Personal Points program rolled out. It is not normal for WW to change up its program so soon.  I’m going to take a guess that the personal points program was not as successful as they were hoping it would be.

Is a new plan coming to Weight Watchers in November 2022?

Yes, it is not just a rumor you might be hearing. Weight Watchers are indeed rolling out a new program very soon. There is no word yet on what the name of the new program will be but I am sure we will learn this soon.

I am no stranger to WW changes, I have been a lifetime member for over 25 years!  I’ve lost count of how many different programs I have seen come and go. I always try to navigate the new programs into my lifestyle but sometimes they are not a good fit for me and that is ok. Honestly, I have not been in love with any of the programs since we lost points plus. I have tried them all, I always do, but most of my success came from the beloved points plus program.

After points plus came Smart points, beyond the scale. Then we had WW freestyle, which turned into MyWW plan and gave us the colored blue, green and purple programs. The last change to come was WW personal points, which had us all pretty much doing our own program. This last program is where I kinda jumped off the WW train, I started tracking my calories instead. I feel that the sense of community was lost not only with the personal point program but even before that with the MyWW plan. I also was not a fan of the whole earning points for eating certain foods or drinking water.

When I was an avid meeting member and went weekly, I thrived during the meetings and loved the community feel. It just made sense that everyone was on the same program and talking about our journeys together was easy. When people start following different programs it was hard to grasp who was doing what.

What will the new Weight Watchers plan be?

  • The new plan will be the same for everyone (unless you are diabetic)
  • Members will have the same zero-point foods which will include non-starchy vegetables, fruits, lean poultry and fish, tofu,  non-fat cottage cheese, plain non-fat greek yogurt, eggs, beans, lentils, corn, peas, and a new addition of air-popped plain popcorn.
  • Daily point allowances will depend on a number of things like age, sex, current weight, and height.
  • Members will have a daily point allowance and a weekly point allowance.
  • While members can still earn points for activities, there will be no more points given for water and/or eating certain food such as vegetables.
  • There will be a plan for diabetic members, it will look similar to the regular plan with a focus on eating fewer carbohydrates and sugars.
  • The algorithm for calculating points will be the same.

*Again, please note this is information I was able to find online, I can not confirm if it is true but many sources lead me to believe it is the correct information.

Can I still follow the Personal Points program?

Weight Watchers will do away with the personal points program once the new program rolls out. If you prefer to stick to this program or maybe you still enjoy one of the older WW programs there are many free Apps out there that you can download and follow these programs on. A few of my favorites are

The WW app will only work for the current program available.

So is this new program basically the old WW Freestyle or the “blue” program?

Want my honest answer? Yes, in a nutshell, lol! But WW won’t admit that, they will put all this focus on a brand new revised program meanwhile we are all scratching our heads thinking, “wait a minute, I’ve been here before!”

That being said, I think this is a well-needed change. Personal points in my opinion was just one big mess, yes just messy! Other food bloggers that list WW points can relate with me on this one but it was so hard to post a recipe with the point value. Everyone had different points based on the zero foods they had selected. As a food blogger we enjoy helping members and listing the point value right there in the recipe to make it easy to track. This was pretty much impossible and I just started listing point ranges for recipes. It makes more sense for a recipe to be “x” amount of points for EVERYONE!

What can I eat on this new Weight Watchers plan?

Short answer, exactly what you have been eating and enjoying. While the zero-point foods are changing and some foods for some members won’t be zero points anymore I think ultimately you won’t notice a big difference in the things you are eating. If you can’t work the plan into your everyday life and around the foods you enjoy eating then you should not be doing the plan. We should never have to make drastic changes to the foods we love, it is always about balance and moderation.

Spicy chicken chili

Thinking back to the old Freestyle program got me thinking about some of my favorite “freestyle” friendly recipes like my Spicy chicken chili, zero points on the old freestyle so this should be a 0PP recipe with the new program. Some other favorite simple and delicious recipes that were “freestyle” friendly are

New weight watchers plan, Pumpkin cream cheese muffin recipe

If you like to bake I have so many delicious recipes that are low in points, like my delicious pumpkin spice cream cheese muffins or  pumpkin banana greek yogurt muffins  These muffins are just 2PP on the old freestyle program so I expect them to stay the same on the new program. Here’s a list of some of my favorite baking recipes that I expect will stay low in points once the new program is available.

Will you update all your recipes to reflect the new program?

I feel there won’t be too much to do here, I currently still list the old “MyWW” points on most of my recipes (think blue, green & purple programs). Since it seems that the new program will be very similar to the blue program I’m guessing the points will already be there in my recipes. I’ll just have to go in and do a little updating so there is no confusion on the points listed.

Overall thoughts on the changes?

Bring it on!! As I already mentioned I tapped out when personal points rolled out last year. I was already halfway there with the MyWW plan with different colors so it just pushed me over the edge. I am all for getting back to everyone being on the same program. We need this to get back that community feel again, I think WW veered off the road a bit too much with the last few programs and I am happy they seem to be getting back to their lane!

I know with program changes come all kinds of emotions and many may be feeling frustrated, I get it! I’m a firm believer in trying everything once, feel it out and see if you can make it work for you before throwing in the towel. Please know I am always here to help and offer support in any way I can so don’t hesitate to reach out.

    1. I am lifetime member of WW. I dont like the workshop part.Ho back to way meetings were years ago..You learn so much and enjoy being there. Don’t like the instructor constantly walking to one ene to room to other while talking to the group.

        1. I did share a few free Apps that you can use in this post, they offer the older WW programs, they are just called a slightly different name

    2. Thanks for a great summary!! Your recipes have helped me tremendously to stay on plan!!! They taste delicious and I can adjust them as needed. I think this “new” plan will be just fine ?

      1. Hi Linda, I am so glad you are enjoying the recipes, and yes I agree, I think the new plan will be a great one!

    3. I’m glad to hear this! With the last iteration
s, I kind of dropped out (13 year life member), and I miss both the community and the structure. Hope to reconnect!

      1. So happy to find your blog…and as others have stated, you hit everything accurately! My opinion, and we are back to meetings, get rid of”workshops”! Connotation is we’re going to work! Meetings says we’re having an interesting, fun time with friends, which we are!!! Glad they’re returning to what works best for most people!!!

        1. Meetings helped me so much when I was doing my best on the program, it is a nice way to connect with others on the same journey! Good luck to you Sylvia with the new program 🙂

    4. I seriously just quit WW, Weight Watchers, whatever it’s called now. Oct 19th was my last day. I was beyond frustrated and getting nowhere, all the while giving away my hard earned money. Open back up the neighborhood studios along with this “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” plan and I’ll be back.

        1. I told fellow WW goers the same exact things you said here. It made no sense whatsoever to hold a meeting with attendees doing different plans. I gained nothing and stopped attending. Having one plan gives you the community and commrodery we love and need, the ability to actually apply the feedback someone is receiving to your own journey, etc. because you’re on the same plan. I’ve been a member since 2007. I returned to Points Plus when they rolled out the new (3) plans last year. I found it so confusing, was worried I’d answer the questions wrong where they suggest the plan for you and has ZERO interest trying all 3 plans to figure out which is the best plan for me. I’ve been so disappointed with WW’s. A brand I used to be able to trust.

          1. Hi Mary Anne, I agree 100% with you, but it seems like WW finally listened so hopefully good things are to come 🙂

        2. So hear we’re going back to basics! Quit WW with these new personal points!..So confusing..Also, I hope they do away with all of the product advertising at the meetings. I don’t spend my hard earned money to sit through commercials for products or new utensils, pots, pans, water bottles, etc, especially at those prices. Let me hear what works, how to curb cravings and what foods are the healthiest for me. Thanks…Can’t wait to try the new program.

    5. I hated freestyle and never lost with any consistency on it or the blue plan. I’m considering offboarding after 10 years. Too much messing with the plan. Bring back smart points.

          1. Thank you Drizzle for all of your Wonderful Information. I dropped out of WW October 18 due to the fact the App was horrible. My Steps came from my Apple Health app but the personal points never ever recorded it correctly. I spent 18 hours on the phone with WW with zero help. Also I did lose 17 lbs since June but when I had my annual physical my A1C which was always normal came back Pre diabetic!!! I was ordering all WW snacks and staying within my points yes I lost weight but my health was going in wrong direction. The WW food that you could buy in supermarkets was much healthier the breads the small snacks carrot cakes 1 point small lemon cakes 1 point. I also don’t like the workshops at all at one point we were suppose to buy a book and discuss it with a Coach. Who has time for that? Thank you for taking the time to read this. A lot of money for digital $44 a month and an app that doesn’t work correctly and I posted this on WW and immediately had many responses from members who were having the same problem and WW did s not address and the snacks tasted horrible. I look forward to trying your recipes and they look fabulous. Many thanks sorry about the long comments but I wanted to be truthful. Al the Best!

          2. Hi Joan, I hear your frustrations, they are all very valid! I hope you find some recipes you enjoy 🙂

          1. I was successful on Points Plus and have been struggling ever since. None of the new plans are as good as that one. Add to that no local meetings anymore and it’s a disaster.

        1. I did so well on the Green plan, no idea why they had to change things. So frustrating. I’m cancelling my membership today, the new “change” isn’t that different than the one before, which is horrible!

          1. I hear your frustrations Sarah, I think the new change is better than personal points with everyone being on the same program but it still is not my favorite! Good luck to you, maybe one of the WW changes in the future will work better for you 🙂

    1. Thank you! II love the simple, no nonsense way you presented the program. You really should have work for WW. You would be a great coach! I too am a lifetime member and could not understand all the fuss I was seeing from people worrying about change. I have been through more programs than I can remember and figure they are really pretty similar just different ways of counting what you eat. I always look forward to seeing the new program each time. I get too much in a routine and need to look at things more closely. It helps me to be more aware. I do miss meetings or workshop or whatever they call them now. The one in our area closed and the nearest one is 40 miles away. All the best to everyone. We can do this!

      1. Thanks Jean, I appreciate your kind words 🙂 I hate that they closed so many meeting locations, they really are a huge factor in many members’ journeys!

  1. Can’t wait. I did really well before the change last year. Lost 33 pounds during the pandemic. Then went from 30 points down to 21. Hard time staying on points without going over. Pretty much hungry a lot. Many days over eating and hard to stay on track even if eating eggs and or chicken every day. Gained 8 pounds. Looking forward to something new. Realistically you could go the whole day just eating “free” foods which didn’t make sense to me at all.

    1. So happy to hear they are moving away from personal points. I was doing so good for 2 years on the blue plan…and then personal points was so messy so I stopped tracking. I ended up leaving WW.

  2. I can’t wait to go back to the blue program. I gained back more then 1/2 the weight I lost when they started thee we new plan. Hope this sad easy as it was in the beginning

  3. I agree with you that the most recent Personal
Points plan was a mess. I have been a member of Weight Watchers off and on since 1975 and this newest plan was just too complicated for me to follow. I felt that there were too many options and isn’t this how we ended up with weight issues in the first place. Having fought weight issues my entire life I realized that I had to learn all about nutrition and found this new program went against mynutrition education so I had to go with my common sense. I knew that too many potatoes or too much avocado with was not good for me as it was too heavy in calories. We all have to learn what are Achilles heel is with eating so you can’t let people with weight issues think they can get away with eating too much of one particular food. How do you think thin people stay thin. They do eat a variety of foods but they never eat too much of one food. A weight loss program should be teaching you discipline. I have to say that when I first started weight watchers the original plan was the best for me because I felt like I was actually working towards something. It was very regimented but it helped me to lose a few pounds quickly which was that psychological boost that I needed to keep me on the program. You still had a lot of options and learned how to create meals that worked for you rather than following some complicated recipe. My biggest issue with a lot of the recipes are the purchasing of an item that you may only use once every so many months…it was getting expensive. Looking forward to this change and will He joined so I can have the app experience, which hopefully this time will be less complicated.

    1. I’m with you on the points plus plan. That’s where I lost my weight also, but it has found me again on these later plans. I tried with them, I really did, but just couldn’t get them to work for me. I will try this new one, hopefully I can get back on board.

    2. So glad to hear your comments
Latest program was hard to accept and changes were difficult to maintain.
Loved your plan to go back to chicken, fish and tofu, beans, lentils veggies and fruit. Also popcorn. I’ve been on WW 5 years, lost 40 pounds. Maintained eating exactly what you are planning to do, and trying to work with the latest program. Attend weekly meetings as a priority for myself. My workshops have always been a team working to help each other.

    1. I just started WW in August, so this is the only program I know, and it’s been very successful for me. My goal was to lose 17 pounds, and I’m currently down 13. I’m considering losing an additional five. I’ve added numerous recipes of things that I like to make. Do you know if these will update their points value automatically when the program changes?

      1. Hi Deb, congrats on the weight loss, that is fantastic! Yes typically when there is a program change, once the App updates it will update your saved recipes to reflect the new program

    2. I can’t wait for the new program. I pretty much gain all my weight back except 5 pounds and it’s been a struggle

  4. I really enjoy the personal points program but I am excited to see what’s coming/changing. Thanks for sharing the inside scoop!

    1. I couldn’t agree more. I lost weight on Blue and have kept it all off. When I try to follow the current plan I lose interest because I feel like it’s a game I can’t win at. I change my preferences constantly and getting 2 extra points for eating my dinner salad and drinking water is too controlling. It’s like my mother is telling me what to eat.

  5. I am sad that there will no longer be personal coaching. This is a game changer for me, I am not sure I will try the new program

      1. So glad I saw this. I was just about to cancel my WW membership. My husband & I just couldn’t seem to make the personal points plan work for the both of us. Willing to give this one a try. Thank you so much for your great recipes. I’m a big fan of the bubble ups!

        1. Thanks Lainey, I’m happy to hear you are enjoying the bubble ups and I hope the new changes work well for you and your husband!

  6. This makes me so happy, I’ve had a really hard time on this pp plan, I am not a fan, so I’m super stoked for this change!!!

  7. Your input about WW and it’s various programs
Was very enlightening. I personally thrived on the last program. Cutting my personal points was what helped me drop weight that wouldn’t budge. I still have weight to loose, so I plan to embrace the program again and hope for success!!!
