I love anything cinnamon sugar, and these Cinnamon Cake Donuts are proof that you don’t need a lot of cinnamon sugar to get that sweetness you crave.  These cinnamon cake donuts are scrumptious, and only 3 Weight Watchers points each. Now that’s a good donut baking in my books!!

There’s only about 2 tablespoons of sugar throughout the whole recipe- topping included. That means each donut is just one teaspoon of sugar, but you’d never know it! They are slightly sweet and very satisfying. You can feel great about eating them since they aren’t packed with sugar, and your kids can enjoy them too. Cinnamon Cake Donuts would also be perfect for a weekend brunch. Brunch is fun, but is often packed with high calorie foods and drinks. By making cinnamon cake donuts, you have something you can contribute while also ensuring you’re sticking with your diet goals. Everyone will love them!

Three reasons why you need to make this recipe!

Cinnamon Sugar is a classic flavor.

Cinnamon adds a natural balance to the sweetness of sugar, so you don’t have to pack on the sugar to get a lot of flavor out of these donuts. They are delicious with just a little sugar added.

They’re great for a mid afternoon pick me up.

Pair a cinnamon cake donut with a hot cup of tea or coffee, and you’ve got a chill afternoon ahead of you. Sit back and relax with one of these sweet treats to refuel your body and mind.

Baked donuts are much lower in fat than fried donuts.

These donuts have 0 grams of fat and 0 grams of saturated fat. It’s amazing that they still taste so good! Compared to a Krispy Kreme (5 grams of saturated fat) or Dunkin Donuts donut (6 grams of saturated fat), these cinnamon cake donuts are very healthy.

DSCN7023Different ways to change up this recipe:

  • Feel free to use more cinnamon if you love the flavor!
  • These cinnamon sugar donuts could use a drizzle of Lily’s No Sugar Added white chocolate chips (melted) if you have the points for it.

Tips and Tricks for Making Cinnamon Cake Donuts:

  • I only counted points for ½ Tbsp sugar for the topping as you will have leftover mix. I personally only used half of the sugar cinnamon mix, but you can try and use all of it if you prefer, or put more into the batter.
  • If you don’t keep cake mix in the house, you can increase the all purpose flour and just use that instead. But the cake mix does add a nice sweetness as well as a cake like texture. I always have a box in the pantry and if you seal it, it will keep well for other baked goodies.

I just want you to know how very much I LOVE your recipes. I thought smart points were going to make me die but you have made it bearable!!! I enjoy every new post ….keep them coming!!!

  2. I too have been struggling to get used to the smart points…I really enjoy the sweet treats, and I find it much harder to make them fit into the smart points plan than in the old system of points plus. Thank you for sharing your recipes, I am always looking for new things to try. I still have about many lbs to lose, but I know that so long as I don’t feel deprived, I can do this! I have lost a lot already using awesome recipes I have found online! Thank you again for sharing!

    1. Hi Melyssa, yeah it definitely is not as flexible as PP was but I’m learning to embrace it and if there is a day I really need an indulgence I just go with it 😉 Good luck on your journey, hope you find some recipes here you like

    1. HI, hmmm I am not sure, I spray mine and they never stick, they actually come out very easy.. what pan do you have? I buy the 6 hole Wilton and it is great

I made these tonite — was really looking forward to them! THey are ok — mine didn’t rise very much. And the batter was barely enough to fill the pans.. it was thick. Maybe I did something wrong
-I’ll try another recipe.. i love donughts!!

    1. Hi Debra, yeah it sounds like something wasn’t right, it should not of been too thick, hence why you also had a hard time spreading them out

    1. Thanks Pam, no not really, sometimes what is on sale, I have used Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and Pillsbury (that I buy in the U.S)

This is the 3rd time I’ve made these! Really enjoy one with a cup of coffee! Thanks for coming up with these recipes! I always recommend my weight watchers friends to check out your site and recipes

  5. I want to try these and want to share them with my MIL, but my MIL has an allergy to soy, unfortunately white box cake mixes all have soy – some of the gluten free I found online do not have soy, but in my rural area would have to them order online, 6 boxes at a time! I usually make her cakes from scratch, do you think if I just use the dry ingredients of the ‘scratch cake’ recipe? I know I will also have to sub the margarine for real butter which will change the points etc.

    1. Hi Laura, yes of coarse I think that will work out just fine, I hope you both enjoy them 🙂

    2. Do you what I could use instead of egg whites? I have loved all your donut recipes but recently found out that I’m allergic to eggs (specifically egg whites) but really want to continue making them.

  6. I just made these today – delicious!!! Turned out perfectly without any adjusting. Thank you so much for bringing donuts back into my life.

  7. Is there something I could substitute for the white cake mix? Hate to have a whole box of it and only use 3 tablespoons. Thank you

    1. I always have a cake box for recipes or my mini pancake muffins I make for breakfast weekly, it stores well just like flour does.. I’m not too sure what else to replace it with other than just using more flour and leaving it out but they will lose that cake taste
