When I first started this blog, Monday’s were always my donut baking days, or so it just worked out that way.. so I thought why not make some donuts this sunny Monday morning šŸ™‚ I love anything cinnamon sugar, and you don’t need a lot to get that sweetness you crave, these cinnamon cake donuts are scrumptious, and only 3 smart points each.. Now that’s a good donut baking day in my books!!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 14 minutes
Total Time 19 minutes
Servings 6
3PP, 3SP blue, green & purple

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup + 1Tbsp flour
  • 3 Tbsp white cake mix
  • 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp liquid egg whites
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup skim milk
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnmaon
  • For topping
  • 1 tsp reduced calorie margarine (melted)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F and spray a 6 hole donut pan with cooking spray.
  • In a bowl mix your flour, cake mix, brown sugar and baking powder. Add in your egg whites, vanilla and milk, mix well.
  • Use half your batter and divide over your 6 hole donut pan. In a small zip lock bag mix your 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon, cut off tip of bag and swirl sugar mix over your 6 donuts. Top with remaining batter.
  • Bake in oven for 14 minutes.
  • Melt your margarine and using a pastry brush, brush onto your donuts. Place your 1 Tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon mix on a flat plate and dip donuts in mix.
  • *Please note, I only counted points for 1/2Tbsp sugar for topping as you will have left over, I only used 1/2 the mix, also if you don't keep cake mix in the house you can increase the flour, but the cake mix does add a nice sweetness, I always have a box in the pantry and if you seal it it will keep well for other baked up goodies.
  • Makes 6 donuts at 3 personal points or 3 smart points each on blue, green & purple (2 points plus) keep in a sealed container. Will freeze well.

I just want you to know how very much I LOVE your recipes. I thought smart points were going to make me die but you have made it bearable!!! I enjoy every new post ….keep them coming!!!

Thank you Kimberly! I won’t lie, smart points can be tough, but I am learning to make it work šŸ™‚

  2. I too have been struggling to get used to the smart points…I really enjoy the sweet treats, and I find it much harder to make them fit into the smart points plan than in the old system of points plus. Thank you for sharing your recipes, I am always looking for new things to try. I still have about many lbs to lose, but I know that so long as I don’t feel deprived, I can do this! I have lost a lot already using awesome recipes I have found online! Thank you again for sharing!

Hi Melyssa, yeah it definitely is not as flexible as PP was but I’m learning to embrace it and if there is a day I really need an indulgence I just go with it šŸ˜‰ Good luck on your journey, hope you find some recipes here you like

My donuts stuck to the pan even though I did spray the pan? Any tips??? But they were delicious!

    • Drizzle Reply

HI, hmmm I am not sure, I spray mine and they never stick, they actually come out very easy.. what pan do you have? I buy the 6 hole Wilton and it is great

I made these tonite — was really looking forward to them! THey are ok — mine didn’t rise very much. And the batter was barely enough to fill the pans.. it was thick. Maybe I did something wrong
-I’ll try another recipe.. i love donughts!!

    • Drizzle Reply

Hi Debra, yeah it sounds like something wasn’t right, it should not of been too thick, hence why you also had a hard time spreading them out

  5. Love your recipes ! Do you rely on a certain brand of cake mix for recipes ?

    • Drizzle Reply

Thanks Pam, no not really, sometimes what is on sale, I have used Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and Pillsbury (that I buy in the U.S)

This is the 3rd time I’ve made these! Really enjoy one with a cup of coffee! Thanks for coming up with these recipes! I always recommend my weight watchers friends to check out your site and recipes

Hi Jessica, thank you so much I appreciate that šŸ™‚ so glad your enjoying the donuts!!

  7. I want to try these and want to share them with my MIL, but my MIL has an allergy to soy, unfortunately white box cake mixes all have soy – some of the gluten free I found online do not have soy, but in my rural area would have to them order online, 6 boxes at a time! I usually make her cakes from scratch, do you think if I just use the dry ingredients of the ‘scratch cake’ recipe? I know I will also have to sub the margarine for real butter which will change the points etc.

    • Drizzle Reply

Hi Laura, yes of coarse I think that will work out just fine, I hope you both enjoy them šŸ™‚

    • Kelly Stewart Reply

Do you what I could use instead of egg whites? I have loved all your donut recipes but recently found out that I’m allergic to eggs (specifically egg whites) but really want to continue making them.

      • Drizzle Reply

Hi Kelly, you could try a little buttermilk or yogurt in replace of the egg whites

I just made these today – delicious!!! Turned out perfectly without any adjusting. Thank you so much for bringing donuts back into my life.

    • Drizzle Reply

Woohoo donuts! So glad you enjoyed them Diane, no one should ever have to give up donuts ha!

  9. Is there something I could substitute for the white cake mix? Hate to have a whole box of it and only use 3 tablespoons. Thank you

    • Drizzle Reply

I always have a cake box for recipes or my mini pancake muffins I make for breakfast weekly, it stores well just like flour does.. I’m not too sure what else to replace it with other than just using more flour and leaving it out but they will lose that cake taste

    • Drizzle Reply

Hi, no my recipe builder has them at 3SP .. here is a breakdown.. 6- flour, 7- cake mix, 1- brown sugar, 1- milk, 4- white sugar, 1- margarine
