This creamy coleslaw recipe is delicious and Weight Watchers-friendly, at only 1 WW point per serving! Instead of having mayo as the homemade coleslaw dressing base, we’re using nonfat plain Greek yogurt with just a small amount of light mayo for creaminess and richness. This yummy side dish has the ingredients of a traditional coleslaw: shredded red and green cabbage, carrots, celery seed, and other seasonings like white pepper and onion powder. And, of course, it has vinegar for a nice, zesty punch.

It’s such an easy coleslaw recipe! You can throw it together in a matter of minutes and store in the refrigerator for later. Whether you’re having some friends over for a BBQ or just want to have some slaw with your causal weeknight dinner, you can prepare this in the morning and let the flavors marinate all day. I highly suggest doing it this way! Although you can serve it instantly after making it, nothing compares to its flavor after it rests for a couple of hours.

I personally love this recipe because it is so customizable. It has a nice balance of sweetness and tanginess but can easily be adjusted. I’ve found that people from different regions have their own unique preferences when it comes to coleslaw. It’s something I discovered after moving to a new state. I grew up enjoying coleslaw with a punch, but I was surprised to find that some areas in the U.S. love it super sweet! Now, I love it both ways. So, feel free to use this recipe as a starting point and tweak the honey or vinegar to make it just right for your taste!

Why You Should Try This Recipe

  • The perfect healthy side dish. Everyone needs some yummy side dishes to serve with their favorite BBQ entrees. This refreshing coleslaw is creamy, flavorful, and lightens up any plate of comfort food.
  • No granulated sugar involved. Many coleslaw recipes use granulated sugar to counterbalance the vinegar, but this recipe uses a natural sweetener: honey!
  • You can use a shredded coleslaw blend to make it easy! If you don’t have time to manually shred the cabbage and carrots, you can purchase a coleslaw blend. The pre-shredded kit still has zero WW points as long as it doesn’t have anything extra added to it.

How to Make Weight Watchers Coleslaw (Step by Step)

  1. Place the shredded cabbage and carrots in a large bowl.
Coleslaw dressing and shredded cabbage

2. Separately, combine the wet ingredients and seasonings, drizzling the warmed honey in and whisking to form the creamy coleslaw dressing.

3. Fold the coleslaw dressing into the shredded cabbage and carrots, ensuring that it is coated entirely. You can taste-test it now, but I suggest allowing it to rest first so all of the flavors can marry. It is much easier to tell what needs adjusting after everything has melded together.

4. Cover the coleslaw and transfer to the refrigerator for two hours minimum. Before serving, perform a taste test to see if you would like to add more vinegar, honey, or salt, depending on your preferences. I usually start with less vinegar since the Greek yogurt is already tangy, and then before serving, I can add more if needed.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Coleslaw with No Mayo: if you don’t wish to include mayo at all, simply replace it with an equal amount of Greek yogurt.
  • Mayo Replacements: You can also use light sour cream or miracle whip in place of the mayo.
  • Add Onions: If you would like your dish to be sharper, add green onions for garnish or grate some white onions to mix in with the shredded cabbage and carrots.
  • Add Mustard: If you prefer additional tang, add a small amount of mustard. You can use Dijon mustard or dry mustard.
  • Sweetener: Agave nectar or maple syrup will also work to add sweetness and help balance the vinegar and tanginess of the yogurt.
  • Celery Salt Vs. Seed: If you have celery salt, you can use that instead. Omit the table salt in the recipe before taste-testing, and then add a small amount if needed.

Tips and Tricks for Making The Best Coleslaw

  • If the Weight Watchers coleslaw seems dry when you first mix the dressing in, don’t worry; the cabbage will release liquid over time. Adding more dressing can actually make it soupy. If you still want some more moisture after the resting time, you can simply add a couple of spoonfuls of Greek yogurt and stir it in just before serving.
  • Gently warming the honey helps it to dissolve into the dressing more easily. Be careful not to make it hot though because it can curdle the Greek yogurt.
