Turkey sausage patties are delicious and healthy breakfast meat. Pair these with a few eggs and you’ve got a zero point breakfast.

It leaves you plenty of room to add some heart-healthy oats or whole wheat toast. You could even use these to put into Hawaiian rolls for a sweet and savory sausage breakfast sandwich. The kids will love it because it’s not spicy, but still very flavorful.

Choosing turkey sausage over pork sausage or even beef will give you a good bit of health benefits. Turkey is low in fat and high in protien- even higher than chicken! Turkey also offers a range of vitamins and minerals such as B3, B6, B12, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, and iron. The fact that it is so high in vitamins and minerals and so low in fat makes it a heart-healthy choice. Eating these turkey sausage patties for breakfast instead of bacon or pork sausage can help reduce the risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases. You can do all that without giving up flavor and eating bland turkey. This recipe yields moist, flavorful sausage patties.

Three reasons why you need to make this recipe!

It has way fewer preservatives than regular turkey sausage.

Making these turkey sausage patties is a great way to know what you’re exactly what you’re putting in your body. You can keep all the ingredients super clean so that you’re not eating preservatives or additives.

It has much less fat than store bought turkey sausage.

Even when sausage is turkey based, it can still be high in fat. Popular brands of breakfast turkey sausage can have 6-10 grams of fat per 2 oz serving. This version of turkey sausage patties will give you over 2 oz of meat per serving and only 1 gram of fat. A much healthier alternative!

It makes a great high protein snack.

Turkey sausage patties aren’t just a good breakfast food. You can pack a few in a zip lock bag and have them for a snack on the go. They’re filled with enough spices to be delicious even cold.

Ingredients you need to make Turkey Sausage Patties:

  • 1 lb 99% lean raw ground turkey
  • 1/2 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 clove of garlic, diced
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 1.5 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp onion salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

How to make Turkey Sausage Patties (step by step):

  1. If time allows, make the mixture the night before and let the patties sit in the fridge overnight so the spices can soak into the meat. It really enhances the flavor.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the turkey, maple syrup, and all spices. Mix it well then divide it into 6 – 3oz patties. Place them in a sealed container in the fridge. You can cook them right away if needed. The spices really come out more when left overnight in the fridge.
  3. Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat and coat with some nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Cook 3 patties at a time unless you have a large pan and can cook all without them touching. Cook for 3-4 minutes then flip and repeat until the patties are cooked all the way through. Time may vary depending on how thin or thick you make the patties.
  5. Alternatively, you can air fry these patties by placing a liner in the basket and cooking at 375 for 8-12 minutes.
  6. Serve warm, and enjoy!

Different ways to change up this recipe:

  • You can make them spicy by adding crushed red pepper.
  • You can add grated veggies such as carrots or zucchini before cooking. See tips and tricks for more details.
  • You can make this with ground chicken, but it will slightly change the flavor.
  • If you need a time saver, you could add a spice mixture – like a ranch dressing packet – instead of all the individual spices. It would definitely change the flavor, but it would save you some time.
  • These are great for freezer breakfast sandwich meal prep. Cook egg whites in a muffin tin, then put each egg white circle and a turkey sausage patty on an English muffin. Wrap tightly in saran wrap and freeze. To heat, take it out of the wrap, then cover it with a damp paper towel and microwave for 2 minutes.

Tips and Tricks for Turkey Sausage Patties:

  • If you find that your patties are dry, add shredded zucchini before cooking. Shred the zucchini, place it in a kitchen towel, and wring out the moisture. Add it to the turkey mixture and make it into patties. It’s a great way to hide veggies without messing with the taste, and it will also increase the volume. You could get about 10 turkey patties with zucchini added.
  • The sage is key in this! Don’t skip the sage, otherwise, it won’t taste like sausage.
  • I used a sugar-free maple syrup but regular is fine-it should not add any points per serving.
  • These freeze really well, so make big batches. You can pull a few out each night for the next morning’s breakfast.
  • To reheat from the fridge or from frozen wrap in a paper towel and microwave for 1-3 minutes.
  • It’s worth it to make the mixture the night before- trust me! You could even make a batch large enough for the week, and just keep the patties raw in the fridge. Take however many you need for breakfast out each morning, and cook them so they’re fresh.

    1. This looks amazing! Can you tell me the % on the ground turkey? Does that makes a difference?
      Thank you!

      1. yes you should use 99% fat free however I can’t always find it so I use what I can find and don’t stress about it, my motto is ground turkey is not why I am on WW haha

  1. These look delicious. Thank you. I switched to purple (as recommended) for about 1 month. It made me nervous to have so few points so I switched back to blue and I feel more comfortable.

      1. I’m definitely going to try these! I’ve been buying them at Walmart for my breakfast sandwiches but know they have stuff in them that’s not healthy, so I’ve been wanting to try making them myself.

    1. Hi well I am following purple program for January so potatoes are a zero food so I have not been worrying too much per say as to how many I use so that would be up to you

    1. Well the recipe is called “turkey” breakfast sausage patties lol but yes it is all the seasonings, you can buy turkey sausages, no different

  2. I made a batch of these on Sunday and used them to make freezable breakfast sandwiches throughout the week. The patties are very tasty!

      1. Can you use ground chicken. I assume flavor profile would be the same. There is something about the ground Turkey that I don’t like but love the ground chicken. Than You

  3. These look awesome! My kids always ask for turkey sausage, and I don’t like giving them the nitrate-laden frozen turkey sausage from the store. These will be great to keep in the freezer. I imagine they’d be great w/ egg and cheese on an english muffin (more points, though) w/ a little sriracha, too. thx!

  4. I made these this week. Day 1 I was like hmm not so sure. But now that I’ve been eating them all week and now I need to make more! LOL they are filling and definitely

      1. Recipe sounds terrific, but honestly I despise fennel and rarely can find sausages without that seasoning. Is there any other seasoning you would recommend since I have to replace the fennel? Love your recipes SO much … really glad you went purple for all our sakes!

        1. Hi Rebecca, you really can throw any seasoning in there that you like, that is the great thing with seasoning .. make it your own.. maybe some dried parsley, or Italian herb seasoning..

  5. You inspired me to try purple for the month of January. I love it. I’ve lost 8 lbs since then and I’m still going strong.
I made these the first time following your recipe and they were pretty dry. Especially when reheated. I saw on a random cooking show to add shredded zucchini (squeezing out most of the water first). I tried it today and they are awesome. I love the combination of spices. Thanks for so many great recipes. I’ve been making your sweet recipes for years!

    1. Hi Lori, way to go on the 8lbs on purple 🙂 that is fantastic! I didn’t find them too dry but great tip with the zucchini, thanks for sharing, good luck on your continued journey!
