Weight Watchers is launching a new plan, WW PersonalPoints™, read on to learn everything we know about it so far.

First and foremost I am not affiliated with WW in any way. Anything I share in this post is information I was able to gather from our good friend the “internet”, any of you can do the same by simply doing a little research. I can not vouch that the information is correct, I am simply basing it on what we have seen in other countries for the new program.

If you have been a WW member for a while then it is no secret to you that we can expect to see program changes every few years, I myself have been a member for well over 20 years so I’ve seen my fair share of program changes. Changes can be scary, but WW, as a company is so successful because they consistently evolve and change their diet plan as new research comes out.

When does the new WW plan launch?

The new WW PersonalPoints™ plan has already launched in some places, New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K, this helps us with some insight as to how the new program will look, while other countries programs can sometimes be slightly different, for the most part, they are the same. It is expected that the PersonalPoints™ program will launch in both the U.S and Canada on November 8th.

So will we still have the 3 colored plans to follow, blue, purple, and green?

No, the MyWW program with the 3 colored programs to choose from will be no more, it will now just be known as The new WW PersonalPoints™

What do we know so far about the new WW PersonalPoints™

  • Everyone will take the WW personal assessment, which asks questions like, “Do you stock your fridge with fruits and vegetables and lean proteins?” It will ask you about your activity routine and even how much sleep you are getting.
  • You will be given the option to choose from a list of zero point foods, including your favorites such as potatoes, avocados, and brown rice, you’ll also choose from a list of proteins you eat regularly, such as chicken, pork, beef, lentils, eggs, and yogurt. In some of the categories, you will select 1 option and in some, you get to choose more than one.
  • Once you are done with the assessment you will be given a list of your own personal zero points foods, based on the answers you submitted. The foods will be similar to the ones you can have for zero points on the current blue & purple MyWW program, like eggs, chicken, oatmeal, and corn. The idea behind this is that the plan will be catered to you, so the foods you get for zero points are all foods you actually enjoy eating.
  • You will also be given a daily points allowance, just as you are now and a weekly points allowance, these can vary a lot from one person to the next and it really will come down to the personal assessment that you will take. You will still be able to “rollover” points.
  • According to the Australian website, all nutritional info is taken into account when determining the point value for foods.
  • Something new they are adding is you can earn additional points for eating vegetables, drinking all your water, and steps/exercise.
  • One notable change with the new plan is higher fat foods such as nuts and avocado (this is exciting!!)  will now be lower in points, and I think I read that for those who choose it avocado can be a zero point food.
  • Once the new app is up and running and you have taken the personal assessment all of your saved recipes will be adjusted based on your personal points.
  • The App will give you a daily step or physical activity target to reach and doing so may earn you some extra points.
  • You can retake the assessment as often as you want, sometimes we change our likes and dislikes with the foods we eat and this may reflect on your own personal points. Your current weight, amount of weight you want to lose, and age will all be factored in when receiving your own daily personal points target.

What if I hate the new program, can I still follow the old one?

This is where I say, you do you! Not everyone is going to be accepting of the new program, that’s just life, and if you are happy with the current one and don’t want anything to change then you do what is best for you. You won’t be able to follow the old program on the WW App but there are many third-party apps available that you will be able to continue on the MyWW program if that is what you choose to do. A few of my favorite third-party apps are ProTracker and iTrackbites.

What is your take on this new program?

As mentioned above I have been a WW lifetime member for over 20 years, I have lost count on how many times it has changed on me and sometimes I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with WW. There have been programs I’ve loved and excelled at, hello Points Plus I’m talking to you, and programs I hated and refused to follow! I will say that I am a firm believer that if you work the program, the program will work, whichever program you follow, if you follow it correctly you will have success.

It sounds like WW finally listened to everyone that complained after points plus switched to freestyle and all these new zero point foods came out, many complained that they didn’t like a lot of these foods and were being punished for not liking them. Two different people could both have say 23 daily points, one loved all the zero point foods and incorporated them into their day, the other disliked all but one of the zero point foods so their day was a lot less food than the other person. Now it seems we get to pick and choose our zero-point foods which is why the program can look different for everyone. I think having the program focus on each individual is a very positive thing.

What will this mean for all of your recipes, will you still list points?

This is a tricky one to answer, please know I will do everything I can to ensure points are listed, however, this new program is going to make that challenging. Any recipes with zero point foods, which is most of my recipes can vary in points depending on the individual, what might be 2 points for person A could be 4 points for person B based on what foods they select as their zero point foods. The points for any recipe can easily be figured out though by simply building my recipe in your WW App, this way you can be sure you get the right point value for you.

I will continue to list all nutritional macros for every recipe as well as MyWW points, blue, green & purple, and points plus for those who wish to follow either of these programs.

How do I build your recipe in my WW App?

This is easy I promise, open your WW App and go to the search bar at the top then select “My Foods” from the options below. Once you are in “My Foods” select “Recipes” in the middle then “Create” in the top right corner. This is where you will build the recipe, you will name it, add in the servings, and then add all ingredients. When you are done it will give you a point value per serving and once the program changes that will be catered to your own personal points.

Just a final note to say a big thank you for all of your continued support, I get to do what I love doing which is creating recipes, because of all of you! As mentioned above change can be hard, and scary but it can also be good. It is about figuring out what works best for you and what you are comfortable with, remember this is your journey and no one else, do what works for you! Program changes can make things difficult in my world, please know I am just one person, me, myself, and I working on this blog, so when changes happen I can only work as fast as one person can to do the necessary updating needed. I appreciate your patience through it all!

  1. Just catching up on emails, and read yours this morning. Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully alert us of the upcoming changes. Change is not easy and humans don’t do it well. However, I haven’t been happy with the current program and look forward to seeing what is coming. Choosing the food that I like to eat consistently sounds great! Once again, thanks for the information and hope you continue to provide us with great recipes!

    1. HI Lynda, you are very welcome, I think it is going to be a good change, I’m feeling good about it 🙂

  2. Hi. I just discovered you when searching about the new program changes. I’ve lost over 30 lbs on the current one (purple). I took the questionnaire this morning but didn’t accept it. So few points and weeklies!! I really liked the ease of knowing all fruits and vegetables were free. Also what happened to the Wins?? I’ve been trying to get another set of WW wine glasses. Is this disappearing too??
Thanks for your blog. I will follow you now

    1. Hi Barbara, to be honest I am not sure about the wins, I’d try the assessment a few times and see if you can find a happy balance, if you pick any of the foods in the list and say you eat them often it will automatically make them a 0PP food when in reality you might not be eating them that often enough to be a 0PP foods, so my suggestion would be to play around with the assessment

  3. Hi there! I’ve noticed other bloggers are adding links to their own recipes that we can open in the WW app and see our personal point values without having to rebuild the recipe. Is this something you’re looking at incorporating as well?

    1. HI Jordan, unfortunately I won’t be doing this, this only works if you live in the same country as that blogger, I am in Canada, we use a .ca platform to sign into WW, in the U.S they use a .com platform, so if I add my builder link and someone in the U.S tries to use it it will not recognize their sign-in info, I feel if it does not work for everyone visiting the blog then it should not be an option, it is not fair to help some and not everyone, so I will just list point ranges and then you can build the recipe in your App if you decide to make it

  4. Drizzle ,
Can you please leave the older point calculations on your older recipes ? Of course, you wont be able to calculate these on the new plan . Many of us that use your site, use the I track Bites App .So this would be very helpful .
I appreciate all of your hard work .
