If you grew up on Shake N Bake Pork Chops, this healthier homemade version will really take you back. If you have never had Shake N Bake Pork Chops (or chicken), you have to give this recipe a try to find out what all the excitement is about.

Shake N Bake – the seasoned bread crumb mix – was originally made by the Kraft Heinz Company to mimic the flavor of homemade fried chicken. It’s often advertised as healthier because there is no need to deep fry the meat in order to get that delicious crunch. But, the processed, packaged coating can still deliver an unhealthy amount of calories and chemicals to your dinner.

With this homemade version of Air Fryer Shake N Bake Pork Chops, you’re controlling each and every ingredient, so you know what you’re eating is healthy. You can keep this dish lean, low in processed foods, and still keep the full flavor.

By using the air fryer, you’re preventing the need to deep fry the meat, which saves you hundreds of calories. Don’t worry- the magic of the air fryer is that it can still deliver that signature crunch.

You can even get the kids involved in the cooking process- let them do the “shaking” while you prep the side dishes. Getting kids involved in the kitchen is a great way to teach them about nutrition and healthy food choices. They also will want to eat the food they helped make. So dinner time won’t be such a fight!

Here’s three reasons why you need to make this homemade Shake N Bake Pork Chops:

Very simple ingredients- you probably already have them in your pantry.

You need some lean pork chops, eggs, panko, and spices. That’s it! It’s simple to make,  and you can even make large batches of the coating to store in the pantry or freezer. It’ll save you time and money by keeping your own version of the Shake N Bake coating stocked in the pantry.

Get out of the chicken rut.

Chicken is healthy and chicken is easy. So easy that you end up making it several nights in a row for your meal prep. But with this low-fat, homemade Shake N Bake pork chop recipe, you will quickly realize how easy it can be to kick chicken to the curb and enjoy a flavorful dinner. It’s much more exciting than grilled chicken with a side of veggies, but just as healthy.

It’s high in protein.

Because of the benefits of a high-protein diet for weight loss, you’re always looking for ways to add more protein. Just one pork chop has 33 grams of protein with only 6 grams of fat. That qualifies as a lean protein source- but with flavor! No need to skip out on flavor just because you’re on a weight loss journey.

Shake N Bake Pork Chop variations:

  • Try it with chicken! These spices would work great for making chicken tenders. And the panko gives the crunch you are looking for. For spicy “fried” chicken, just add a little extra cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
  • Keep it low carb: Make mashed cauliflower with a side of light gravy to keep the whole meal calorie friendly.
  • If you’ve got a few calories to spare, use mayo (or light mayo) instead of egg wash. Spread the mayo on each side of the pork chop before adding it to the zip-loc bag for the final coating. Not only does mayo help create a thick coating, but it gives a depth of flavor as well.

Tips and Tricks for Making Shake N Bake Pork Chops.

  • Can’t find pork chops? You can buy pork loin (usually sold in an oval shape) and slice it into “chops” yourself. Slice into 1-inch thick pieces- like a loaf of bread.
  • Don’t have an air fryer? You can bake these in an oven! You want to keep it hot and fast though. The oven should be at 425 degrees, and bake the pork chops for 15-20 minutes. Bake them on a rack placed on top of a baking sheet to allow air to circulate and keep them from getting soggy on the bottom side.
  • Make sure to coat only one pork chop at a time. You want it fully covered, and doing multiple pork chops at the same time will only make the coating soggy.
  • The pork chops will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days.
  • To reheat- just pop it back in the air fryer for 7-8 minutes.
  • Multiply the spice mix and panko by 4, and keep it in zip-loc bags in the pantry. Just grab a bag when you’re ready to make dinner one night. It’s a great spice mix to keep on hand for any type of meat you want to “fry” up in the air fryer.
