I always love grilling up some burgers on the weekend, they are so versatile, use any kind of ground meat and add in your favorite extras and seasonings. I tend to use ground turkey more often when making burgers as I just like the overall taste of a good turkey burger! These greek turkey burgers are delicious, the feta is not a strong taste, just enough to give them some flavor, to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of feta but I loved these! The 0 point tzatziki sauce is a must when adding all your fixings. Makes 4 burgers at 2 points each on WW.

Can I use chicken or ground beef for this recipe?

Yes, absolutely! These burgers can be very versatile you can use ground chicken and even ground beef if you don’t mind the extra points.

I don’t like feta, can I substitute the cheese for something else?

Short answer, yes, substitutions can always happen, however, these do not have a strong feta taste, to be honest, I am not a huge fan of feta myself yet these burgers came out delicious and the feta gives them an overall nice taste. You can use any grated cheese if you prefer, or you could try ricotta or cottage cheese.

*NOTE- the brand of feta I used was 7SP for 1/3 cup, if you find a lower point brand that might change the overall points, the points only come from the feta on blue & purple and for green it is both the feta and turkey.

Cooking and storing tips…

I prefer cooking burgers on the grill however these can be cooked in a frying pan on the stove, and also in the air fryer.

You can freeze these burgers either before cooking or once cooked if you freeze them before cooking then let them dethaw before you cook them.

Tzatziki sauce tips…

Make sure you get as much excess water out of the cucumber, first scoop out the middle seeded area then grate the cucumber. Add the pinch of salt to the grated cucumber and let sit for 10 minutes.

If you have a cheesecloth that is designed to squeeze out the water use that, otherwise you can use a regular tea towel just try to find a lightweight one.

If you don’t have red wine vinegar you can use any vinegar, the red wine just helps with the overall taste.

Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge, it should last for up to 2 weeks. You can half the recipe if you don’t think you will be using it all.

Greek turkey burgers with tzatziki sauce

Servings: 4
Prep: 10 minutes
25 minutes
2P, 2SP blue & purple, 3SP green

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 3/4 cup chopped spinach
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1/3 cup light crumbled feta
  • 1/2 lemon, squeezed
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon zest
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt & pepper (1/2 of each)

Tzatziki sauce

  • 1 cup 0% plain greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup grated english cucumber *see instructions
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • In a bowl mix all of the burger ingredients together, shape them into 4 equal size burger patties.
  • Grill on the bbq over med-high heat for 15-20 minutes. These can also be pan-fried, over medium heat and they can also be cooked in the air fryer, I'd recommend 350F and check them at the 12-15 minute mark, be sure to flip them halfway.

For the tzatziki sauce

  • Cut the cucumber lengthwise in half and scoop out the middle seed area, then use the grater.
  • Add a pinch of salt to 1/2 cup grated cucumber and let sit for 10 minutes, then squeeze out any excess water, use a cloth to help get the water out.
  • Mix all of the tzatziki ingredients together and let chill in the fridge for one hour.

    1. Hi Heather, that can all depend on where you live, I know in the U.S they have more options than we do here in Canada, I just scan and look for the lowest ones I can find 🙂
