Enjoy this 4-point WW Hot Chocolate Mug Cake the next time you want a quick and easy sweet treat! This unique dessert tastes like hot chocolate because the cake batter actually includes hot cocoa mix.
I love this mug cake recipe because it’s simple to make and the perfect treat for one. It’s especially delicious during the winter months when you crave a nice, warm dessert on a chilly day. And since it contains hot cocoa, it truly offers such a comforting and nostalgic feel. To keep this recipe low in points, I opted for a light butter substitute instead of real butter. I also used almond milk and a zero-calorie sweetener.
These simple swaps made a significant difference in WW points! Not to mention, using the no-sugar-added hot cocoa mix helped, too. This is a wonderful recipe for when you don’t necessarily feel like baking a whole dessert. However, I do have some recipes for when you’d like to prepare a larger portion treat. Ingredients in Weight Watchers Hot Chocolate Mug Cake
- 3 tbsp All purpose flour
- 1 tbsp (1/4 oz) Hot cocoa mix (I used Swiss Miss no sugar added)
- 2 1/4 tsp Granulated sugar replacement (use a 1:1 replacement)
- 1/8 tsp Baking powder
- 3 tbsp Unsweetened almond milk
- 1 1/2 tsp Light butter substitute, melted
- Optional: no-sugar-added or regular marshmallows

Instructions for making Weight Watchers Hot Chocolate Mug Cake
- In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients until there are no lumps, and then fold in the wet ingredients. Mix until smooth, but be careful not to overmix.

2. Transfer the mixture to a microwave-safe mug (you can also mix the batter in the mug itself if that is easier for you).
3. Microwave for 45-75 seconds or until fully cooked. If you check on it at the 45-second mark and it needs more time, continue to cook it in 8-10-second intervals until it is done.
4. Optionally, add marshmallow pieces on top and serve immediately with desired toppings.

Variations and Substitutions
- Splurge Version: You can use regular granulated sugar instead of an alternative sweetener if you wish. Use the same amount as the recipe calls for. You can also use regular butter instead of the lighter butter substitute.
- Topping Ideas: Top the hot chocolate mug cake with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, ice cream, or sprinkles. There are tons of toppings that taste delicious with it!
- Milk Type: Feel free to use skim milk, oat milk, or another milk type that you prefer.
- Hot Chocolate Type: You can certainly use a regular hot chocolate mix if that’s what you have. Make sure to adjust the Weight Watchers points accordingly! It will likely increase the points if you use a different brand or a version of hot cocoa that isn’t no-sugar-added.
Tips and Tricks for Making Weight Watchers Hot Chocolate Mug Cake
- Be careful not to overcook the hot chocolate mug cake because it’s texture will get gummy or overly chewy.
- I added some marshmallows before and after cooking it since they melt in the microwave. You can always wait to add them until after if you don’t want any melted ones inside.
- Make sure to use a mug that is large enough so that the hot chocolate mug cake won’t spill over in the microwave. It will also help it to cook more evenly in a bigger mug.
