These scrumptious Weight Watchers Apple Fritters are made in the air fryer, making them a low-point treat. Each fritter is just 5 WW points! These pastries are crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. The cinnamon and nutmeg pair perfectly with the chopped apples, and the glaze is the perfect finishing touch. Although traditional apple fritters are fried, you can make a healthier and equally delicious treat without all the oil (and if you love using your air fryer, you can check out my air fryer recipe collection here to get some other recipe ideas!).

This recipe is also convenient because it doesn’t require any special ingredients, just some baking staples. In fact, it uses regular brown sugar and powdered sugar instead of an alternative sweetener. The only change is that we are using a light butter substitute in place of real butter. Also, the sugar amount is slightly reduced compared to the average recipe for fritters. However, the fritters are still plenty sweet because of the sugary glaze that covers them. I guarantee you will absolutely love this lightened-up version!

  • The fritters are so tasty. These yummy fritters have warm spices, crisp apple pieces, and a maple-infused glaze.

You’ll also need the following ingredients if you plan to make the glaze:

Glaze

  • 1 ¼ cups Powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp Water or unsweetened almond milk
  • Maple extract (made with real maple), as needed (optional)

Instructions for making Air Fryer Apple Fritters

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375F. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, and vanilla. Whisk until smooth, then gradually add the melted butter substitute, stirring to combine.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients, and then make a well in the center and add the wet ingredients. If the mixture seems thick, add 1 – 2 tbsp more milk to thin it (it should be able to hold its shape when scooped).
  3. Once the batter forms, gently fold in the apples. Be careful not to overmix because it will make the fritters tough.

4. Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, leaving some room around the edges for airflow. Generously grease the parchment paper. Scoop some fritters in the basket, leaving room between them so they can spread. Spray the fritters with avocado oil spray or your preferred spray.

5. Air fry for 5 minutes, flip, spray once more, and then cook another 4-6 minutes or until the centers are cooked through. Work in batches as needed.

6. Make the glaze by whisking the lumps out of the powdered sugar, and then add 1 tbsp of water or milk at a time to reach the desired consistency. Flavor it with maple extract (if using) to taste.

7. Right when the fritters come out of the air fryer, use a spoon and drizzle them with glaze.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Pumpkin Or Apple Pie Spice Fritters: Instead of cinnamon and nutmeg, you can use pumpkin pie spice (or apple pie spice) instead. I suggest using about 1 ½ – 2 teaspoons.
  • Apple Fritters with Brown Butter Glaze: If you have extra points to use up, you can make a brown butter glaze instead. Brown butter has a deeper that will enhance the overall taste of the fritters. You can also use regular butter in the batter.
  • Cinnamon Sugar Coating: Instead of the glaze, you can coat the apple fritters with cinnamon sugar. Make sure to do this when they are still hot so it sticks better. If it doesn’t seem to stick, you can lightly coat the fritters with the spray first.
  • Apple Type: Many different types of apples work for this recipe; it is all dependent on your preferences. I personally like the granny smith apples because that tartness helps to balance the sugary glaze. You can also try Honey Crisp, Fuji, Pink Lady, Gala, or Golden Delicious.

Tips and Tricks for Making Air Fryer Apple Fritters

  • Make sure the centers are cooked before removing them from the air fryer. To promote even cooking, make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • If you want to be exact with your portions, you can weigh the fritter batter and evenly divide it to ensure each fritter is exactly the same size.
  • Customize the glaze to your liking. You can make it as thick or thin as you want. Also, feel free to use other baking extracts, such as vanilla, almond, or rum, or add spices like cinnamon.
  • The glaze becomes like a shell and sets up best when you glaze the fritters immediately after you remove them from the air fryer.
  • Cut the apple into small, even diced pieces. This will help prevent the fritters from falling apart and also help the apples to cook evenly.
