These Weight Watchers Sticky Buns are a sweet and delicious treat you don’t want to miss out on! And they are just 5 WW points each, which is significantly lower than regular sticky buns. Typically, sticky buns have syrup made with ingredients like brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. It isn’t usually a Weight Watchers-friendly treat.

However, I figured there must be ways to lighten up the classic recipe, so I made some simple swaps. This recipe is made with reduced-fat Crescent roll dough as the base. The filling and topping are made with a light butter substitute and a brown sugar substitute, which makes a huge difference in the overall points amount!

I’m so happy with how the recipe turned out because it is not only delicious, but it is also so easy to make. You don’t need to be a pro-baker to make it, thanks to the crescent roll dough. These rolls are great for a sweet breakfast or brunch item, or they can be enjoyed as a snack or dessert. They’re pretty versatile. Instructions for making Weight Watchers Sticky Buns

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F. Grease a large baking dish (mine was slightly larger than 9×13, but 9×13 will work). Make the topping by melting the designated butter substitute and mixing it with the brown sugar substitute. Pour the mixture into the bottom of the baking dish, and then sprinkle the pecans on top.
  2. To make the rolls, lay out the two crescent roll sheets next to each other and press them to remove any seams. You should have one large sheet now. Spread the butter substitute evenly over it.
  3. Mix the cinnamon and brown sugar substitute together, and then sprinkle it evenly over the butter.

4. Now, roll the dough like cinnamon rolls. You want to start rolling with the long side of the dough facing you. Make sure to roll it tightly. Cut the log into 16 even pieces. Place the 16 rolls in the baking dish on top of the pecan topping.

5. Bake in the oven for 12-18 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and baked through. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes for the topping to thicken. When serving, flip the rolls upside down so the sticky pecan topping is exposed.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Splurge Version: If you have extra points to use up, you can use regular crescent roll dough instead of the reduced-fat ones. You can also use regular butter. You can adjust the recipe in the WW app to figure out the exact amount of points.
  • Lower the Points: One way to lower the points would be to skip the filling in the center and just roll the crescent rolls without filling. They will still taste yummy with the sticky pecan topping!
  • Sticky Buns with Canned Cinnamon Rolls: If you wish, you can make the process even easier by using canned cinnamon rolls. This way, all you have to do is make the topping and then place the rolls on top of it before baking. However, the points amount will vary depending on the brand of cinnamon rolls that you use.
  • Using Real Brown Sugar: Using the brown sugar replacement helps to keep the points low with this recipe. Unfortunately, if you use real sugar here, the points will be very high. However, if you don’t like to use sugar replacements, just use the same amounts of regular sugar as shown below.

Tips and Tricks for Making Weight Watchers Sticky Buns

  • Check the underside of the dough to make sure the sticky buns are fully baked before removing them from the oven.
  • Leave some room around the edges when you apply the butter and sugar filling in the middle; this prevents it from spilling out when you roll it up.
  • An easy way to get even cuts is to split the log down the middle into two. Then, split each long into two. This leaves you with four short logs that you can cut into four pieces each. You can also use a ruler to cut even slices!
  • Store any leftover sticky buns covered in the refrigerator and enjoy within 3-4 days for best results.
