Three reasons why you need to make this recipe!

It’s fun for the family.

This will take family movie night to the next level. A little sweet treat to go along with salty popcorn is always a good idea. And you won’t feel guilty about feeding this to the family because it’s good for them.

Handheld desserts are so easy and convenient.

Have I mentioned this is perfect for summer?! Grab a slice and go sit by the pool or even out to the porch to enjoy a cool summer evening.

It’s not just for dessert.

Because it’s reminiscent of an apple tart, serve it at breakfast as a little finger pastry. Along with a protein source like scrambled eggs, apple crisp pizza will keep you full and satisfied until lunch. Healthy carbs come from the apples and pizza dough, and because it’s low in sugar, you won’t get that mid-morning sugar crash.

Ingredients you need to make Apple Crisp Pizza:

  • 1 Pillsbury pizza dough
  • 3 peeled and diced apples – you can use your favorite apple. Granny Smith balances out the sweetness with a bit of tartness.
  • 1 Tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

TOPPING

  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup rolled or instant oats
  • 2 Tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp light margarine, softened
  • 2 Tbsp sugar free caramel sauce. Smuckers has a great one.

How to make Apple Crisp Pizza (step by step):

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray a baking sheet and unroll the pizza dough onto it. Gently pat it until it’s even and flat, and spread it across the baking sheet.
  2. Pre-bake the pizza dough in the hot oven for 4 minutes. Remove it from the oven and turn the oven down to 325F.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the diced apples, white sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon together. Gently sprinkle it over the pizza dough until it’s even.
  4. In a bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and margarine together. Pro tip: use your hands. Hands are the kitchen’s best tool! You want a small, even crumble. Once it’s mixed well, sprinkle it evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake in the oven for 16-18 minutes-check once it’s close to 14-15 minutes to make sure the dough does not burn.
  6. Immediately after it comes out of the oven, drizzle with the caramel sauce.
  7. Use a pizza cutter and cut horizontally across the middle and then 10 cuts vertically to leave you with 20 pizza fingers.
  8. It is best served warm, but you won’t want to wait to eat these anyways. Enjoy!

Different ways to change up this recipe:

  • Serve with a scoop of low sugar vanilla ice cream or Halo Top Vanilla Bean and you’ve got the perfect summer dessert.
  • Change up the fruit! In the spring, berries would be an excellent replacement for the apples. Blackberries or blueberries bake best. Peaches would also be delicious.
  • If you have the points for it, a great addition to the topping is a few tablespoons of toasted almond slivers or toasted, chopped pecans.
  • Use this recipe for your next camping trip. Just spread the pizza dough into a cast iron skillet, and once you add the toppings, cook it over the fire.
  • Make little apple crips cups by cutting the pizza dough into 20 even squares or cutting out circles with a biscuit cutter. Place each circle in a sprayed muffin tin and pat it until it’s evenly spread around the whole cup. Fill with the apples and crumble topping. Bake for 10-15 minutes in a 325 degree oven. These little cups are perfect for parties!

Tips and Tricks for Making Apple Crisp Pizza:

  • This does not freeze well, so make sure to plan on eating the whole thing within 5 days.
  • Store it in an air tight container to keep the dough crisp.
  • If you store it in the fridge and want to reheat it – use an air fryer if you have one. It’ll warm up the apples, toast the topping, and re-crisp the pastry base. If not, just pop it in the oven for a few minutes.

  1. Hi, the ingredient list says 1 & 1/2 tsp cinnamon, but then in the directions it says 1 tbsp cinnamon. Can you please let me know which measurement to use?
