Today, I’m sharing a personal favorite: juicy pork burgers bursting with flavor.
Lean ground pork forms the base, ensuring a satisfying texture. A light barbecue sauce adds a touch of smoky sweetness, perfectly balanced by tangy Dijon mustard.
Pork Burgers Overview:
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Servings: Makes about 4-6 pork burgers, depending on the size of the patties
Serving size: 1 pork burger (380 g. approx)
WW Points: The total recipe (without bun) is 16 points. So it’s 4 points per burger if you make 4 generous burgers. But you could definitely make them a little smaller if you want to lower the points.
I went with a big fancy bun which adds a bunch of points (6 points per bun in the ones shown in the photo.) You can definitely find healthier buns, just make sure to put it into the app to find the exact points.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (454 g) ground pork
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 egg, beaten
- ¼ cup (20 g) breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons light barbecue sauce (sugar-free)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A little bit of oil for the grill
To complement the pork burgers, I used cucumber, carrot, lettuce, tomato, red onion, barbecue sauce, mustard, and hamburger buns.
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced garlic, onion powder, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, barbecue sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into burger patties of your desired size. Make sure to press the patties firmly so that they hold their shape while cooking.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
Once the grill is hot, place the pork burger patties on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
While cooking, avoid pressing down on the patties with a spatula as this can cause the juices to escape and result in dry burgers.
Once the pork burgers are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
Serve the pork burgers on buns with your favorite toppings and condiments, such as lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, carrot and cucumber slices, mustard, and sugar-free barbecue sauce. Enjoy your delicious and flavorful pork burgers!
Variations and Substitutions:
The variations are endless:
1. Sometimes I add a slice of smoked ham to give it that bacon-like touch that pairs so well with burgers.
2. As for the vegetables, you can add whatever you like—slices of tomato, cucumber, or even avocado.
3. If you want to elevate the burger, I recommend adding some sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions.
4. Regarding sauces, it’s best to stick to the basics and use only mustard, which has 0 Weight Watchers points, and light sauces like ketchup and sugar-free barbecue.
Tips and Tricks for Making Pork Burgers:
1. For perfect burgers, I always ask the butcher to grind the meat twice; it makes it easier to shape.
2. When it comes to seasoning, anything goes—use your favorite spices, add mustard, cumin, oregano, or any spices you like.
3. Some people use flour as a binder, but burgers can end up dry, so the use of breadcrumbs is essential.
4. I always recommend heating the pan very well before placing the burgers; but with burgers, it should be especially hot. If you drop a few drops of water, they should sizzle vigorously. This way, you’ll maximize the smoky flavor.
