1. Seasoning Is Key

I wish I had known the importance of proper seasoning before buying my Blackstone griddle. When I first got my griddle, I needed to understand the seasoning process thoroughly, and as a result, I encountered some rusting issues early on. Properly seasoning the griddle prevents rust and creates a non-stick surface that improves the cooking experience and prolongs the life of the griddle. I’ve since learned the importance of regularly seasoning the griddle with oil to maintain its performance and prevent rust.

2. Invest in Quality Accessories

Another aspect I would have considered before purchasing my Blackstone griddle is the range of accessories available. While the griddle itself is a great cooking surface, investing in quality accessories such as a cover, spatulas, and a scraper has significantly improved my cooking experience. These accessories make cooking more efficient and extend the griddle’s lifespan by helping to maintain its surface.

3. Storage and Maintenance

Before getting my Blackstone griddle, I only partially considered the storage and maintenance aspects. The grill, particularly larger models, can take up considerable space. I wish I had thought more about where I would store it when not in use to protect it from the elements. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and oiling the surface, is crucial for preserving the griddle. Understanding the storage and maintenance needs beforehand better prepared me for integrating the griddle into my outdoor cooking routine.

4. Cooking Versatility

While I was aware of the griddle’s cooking capabilities before purchasing it, I underestimated the extent of its versatility. From breakfast foods like pancakes and eggs to stir-fries and grilled sandwiches, the griddle has become my go-to for a wide range of meals. I wish I had known beforehand just how versatile the griddle is, as it would have influenced my decision-making process and the recipes I initially tried.

5. Plan for Outdoor Cooking Space

Before buying my Blackstone griddle, I only partially considered my outdoor cooking space. While the griddle is relatively compact, having enough space for food prep and serving is essential. I wish I had thought more about creating a designated outdoor cooking area that accommodates the griddle and provides ample space for meal preparation and serving. Considering the outdoor cooking space would have allowed me to optimize the overall cooking experience from the start.

In conclusion, owning a Blackstone griddle has been a positive experience overall, but there are definitely some things I wish I had known before making the purchase. Several insights would have better prepared me for integrating the griddle into my outdoor cooking routine, from the importance of proper seasoning to considering storage and maintenance needs. Hopefully, by sharing these insights, others can make the most of their Blackstone griddle from the start and enjoy the benefits it brings to outdoor cooking.
