Anchovy pizza might not be your first thought when you think of healthy dinner options, but this one is packed full of fiber, protein, and healthy fats like omega-3. Made with whole wheat and all purpose flour, this recipe is loaded with salty anchovy flavor, a tangy base and plenty of low-fat cream cheese. Even if you’re not a fan of fish, anchovy pizza isn’t overwhelmingly fishy. Instead it’s salty, slightly sweet and fruity and combined with the cream cheese it’s an absolutely delicious dinner.

The pizza base is made with a combination of all purpose and whole wheat flour so the texture is still nice and chewy but is higher in fiber than regular pizza crusts. The anchovy filets add plenty of salty, tangy flavor without adding too many extra calories.

Each large slice comes in at only 217 calories plus (6 WW points), and if you like your pizza crust thin, you can roll out the base even further, cutting the calories down even further per slice. This pizza is quite large so 1-2 slices is more than enough for dinner.

Variations and substitutions

  • You can use any type of cheese you have on hand for this.
  • Add diced vegetables as well if you like. Asparagus, capers, sliced peppers and red onions would all work beautifully.
  • You can use all white or all whole wheat flour if you only have one kind.
  • If you want to make a more indulgent pizza, you can add flaked salmon as well as the anchovies.

Tips and Tricks Section for Making Anchovy PIzza

  • If the pizza dough is too dry, add a drizzle of extra olive oil rather than water. If it is too wet, sprinkle on a little flour and knead it in as needed.
  • This pizza is best eaten fresh but if you want to reheat, the best way is to place a few slices in a cold frypan with a lid and heat over a low-medium heat. This makes it nice and crispy without drying out. It should not be frozen.
  • If you want to use pre prepared pizza dough or bases, the prep time is cut right down.
  • I serve with a garden salad and a light fresh lemon caper dressing to balance the richness of the pizza.
