This banana chocolate chip loaf is the recipe ripe bananas were invented for. Moist, tender, banana-sweet with pockets of melted chocolate running through every slice — it’s comfort baking at its best and comes together in under an hour. It makes the whole house smell incredible, which is almost as good as eating it. Whether you have it warm from the oven with your morning coffee or pack slices in lunchboxes all week, this loaf earns a permanent spot in your recipe rotation.
- Swap: Replace half the flour with oat flour for added fiber, or use mashed avocado in place of butter for a healthier fat.
- Make-ahead: Bake and cool completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap; the flavor deepens on day two.
- Storage: Store at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week; freeze slices individually for up to 2 months.
- Variation: Add a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter to intensify the chocolate flavor without adding coffee taste.
- Serving: Slice and toast lightly, then spread with a little almond butter for a filling breakfast that feels like dessert.
I love baking loaves in the fall, they go so good with a cup of tea 🙂 I usually try to keep them to 3 points plus per slice but this banana chocolate chip loaf is so worth the 4 points! It makes 10 nice size portions and is so nice served warm.
