Have you tried an air fryer ribeye steak before? If not, this is the recipe for you!

This amazing recipe is with mushrooms, shallots, and garlic. The melted butter combined with the garlic and dried dill is out of this world. You can easily double the ingredients to make a dinner for more people, but keep in mind this recipe calls for a 12 ounce steak, which should typically feed more than one person.

How to Make Air Fryer Ribeye Steak With Sautéed Mushrooms (step by step)

  1. Coat your Ribeye in olive oil then sprinkle with salt and pepper on both sides
  2. Place it in the center of your air fryer basket and close it
  3. Cook at 400 degrees for 6-10 minutes per side, (6 minutes for rare, 7 for medium rare, 8 for medium, 9 for medium well, and 10 minutes for well done).  This will also depend on how thick your steak is—mine was approximately 1 inch thick. See section below for more information.
  4. Place your mushrooms inside a sheet of foil, top with shallots and crushed garlic
  5. Place the butter on top and then season with a little salt and pepper and the dried dill
  6. Cook the mushrooms at 400 degrees for 5-6 minutes
  7. Top the steak with the mushrooms and serve!

Tips and Tricks

  • Take the steak out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking so it comes to room temperature. This will help it cook evenly.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes before cooking for the perfect crispy sear.
  • You can also add a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley or thyme for extra flavor.

Storage tips

It is important that the cooked ribeye steak cools down to room temperature before storing it. Then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil to prevent air from getting in. Place the wrapped steak in an airtight container or a resealable bag. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and up to 3-4 months in the freezer.

You can reheat it in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-4 minutes, flipping it over halfway through cooking. Avoid refreezing previously frozen cooked air fryer ribeye steak, as it can affect the texture and flavor of the meat.

How long should I cook the steak in the air fryer?

In this recipe my cut of steak was approximately 12 oz and 1 inch thick, so I air fried it at 400 degrees for 9 minutes per side. This resulted in a medium well steak.

For a 12 oz Ribeye, air fry it for 6 minutes per side for rare, 7 for medium rare, 8 for medium, 9 for medium well, and 10 minutes for well done.

If you are using a 16 oz steak, adjust the cooking time. Air fry it for 9 minutes per side for rare, 10 minutes for medium rare, and so on.

It’s always best to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of your steak to ensure it’s cooked how you want. For medium-rare, the internal temperature should be around 135°F (57°C), and for medium, it should be around 145°F (63°C), 155°F for medium well, and 165°F for well done.

Variations and Substitutions

What vegetables can I use instead of mushrooms?

  • Bell peppers would add a savory, crisp element to your steak
  • Spinach tastes great with beef, butter, and shallots
  • Broccoli florets are healthy and still low in carbs
  • Kale would add an earthy flavor or crispy crunch to your ribeye
