Homemade Tostidos

A healthy and affordable recipe for homemade chips in the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium wheat tortillas about 8 inches or 20 cm in diameter, 342 g.
  • 1 tablespoons vegetable oil 15 ml
  • 3 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 45 ml
  • 2 teaspoons taco seasoning 6 g

Instructions

  • Prepare the tortillas: Using a sharp knife or kitchen scissors, cut each tortilla into 8 equal triangles. You should end up with 48 triangles total.
  • Make the seasoning mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, apple cider vinegar, and taco seasoning until well combined.
  • Season the chips: Using a pastry brush or silicone basting brush, lightly coat both sides of each tortilla triangle with the seasoning mixture. Make sure to spread it evenly, reaching all the way to the edges.
  • Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and let it preheat for about 3 minutes.
  • Arrange the chips: Place a single layer of seasoned tortilla triangles in your air fryer basket. Be careful not to overcrowd; leave some space between each piece for proper air circulation. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the chips in several batches.
  • Cook the chips: Air fry the tortilla triangles for 5-7 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping the chips halfway through cooking. Keep a close eye on them, especially during the last couple of minutes, as they can quickly go from golden brown to burnt.
  • Cool and crisp: Once golden and crispy, remove the chips from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
  • Repeat: Continue cooking the remaining seasoned tortilla triangles in batches until all are done.
  • Serve and enjoy: Once all chips are cooked and cooled, serve immediately or store in an airtight container for later snacking.
