Chicken fritters are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, snack, or main course. However, many traditional recipes call for deep-frying, which can add unnecessary calories and unhealthy fats to the dish. However, this version of Weight Watchers Chicken Fritters makes healthy chicken fritters that are still crispy and flavorful.
These healthy chicken fritters are a great alternative to traditional deep-fried fritters. By using a little bit of oil instead deep frying and by using light cheese instead of full fat cheese, you can reduce the amount of calories and unhealthy fats in the dish.
Plus, the addition of fresh herbs and garlic adds flavor and nutrients to the dish.
Overall, making healthy chicken fritters is easy and delicious. With a few simple substitutions and cooking techniques, you can create a healthier version of this classic dish that your family and friends will love.
Three reasons why you need to try this Healthy Chicken Fritters recipe
- The effort is low, the reward is high.
The flavor you get out of these 2 point WW fritters is amazing compared to the amount of work it actually takes to make them. Anytime you can make a recipe that really doesn’t take that much effort, but tastes amazing, it’s worth adding to the weekly rotation.
- It’s a fun lean protein source.
We know we need lean protein in order to be healthy. But ground turkey and chicken breast can get old fast. These chicken fritters are lean, low carb, and high in protein. It’s a much more fun way to get your protein in.
- It’s basically healthy chicken nuggets!
Who doesn’t love chicken nuggets? They take up way too many points though. These chicken fritters will give you that chicken nugget fix you need, without using up your daily points. Even your kids will eat these!
Ingredients you need to make Weight Watchers Chicken Fritters:
- 16 oz boneless skinless chicken breast, weighed raw
- 1 egg
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 1 ½ Tbsp parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup reduced-fat shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 garlic clove, diced
- Few tbsp of fresh basil, chopped
- 1 Tbsp dried chives
- 1 Tbsp dried parsley
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp cooking oil or cooking spray
How to make this cheesy chicken fritters recipe:
- Cut the chicken into very small pieces (the smaller the better) and place chicken pieces in a bowl. Add in the egg, flour, parmesan, mozzarella, garlic, and seasonings. Using a spoon, mix well.
- Heat a large frying pan over medium to low heat, and add the oil. You may also need to spray the pan with non-stick spray since you are not using much oil.
- Once pan is hot add in about 1/4 cup of chicken mixture per fritter. Don’t overcrowd the pan too much. Cook about 3 at a time.
- Cook fritters about 10 minutes each, turning a few times. Don’t have the temp too hot or they will cook too much on the outside and not enough on the inside.

Chicken Fritter variations:
- Air Fryer Version: Pop these chicken fritters in an air fryer for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. You won’t need to use the cooking oil, which will save you some points! They’ll be 1 point per fritter instead of 2.
- Mexican Version: Instead of basil and mozzarella, add some chopped green onion and light Mexican cheese blend. You can even throw in some diced bell peppers for more volume without extra points.
- Buffalo Ranch: Use a ranch seasoning packet in place of all the herbs and spices. Don’t add buffalo sauce to the mixture though- it will make the fritters too soggy. Once cooked, dip the fritters in buffalo sauce for a classic buffalo ranch version.
- You can substitute almond flour for the flour if you need a gluten free version. It will change the points, so make sure to check your WW app recipe creator.
- This is a great recipe to hide some veggies in! Grate zucchini onto paper towels. Let sit for a few minutes so the paper towels soak up excess water from the zucchini. You will also have to squeeze out any remaining water. Add to the mixture before making into fritters. The addition of the veggies won’t change the flavor, but it will add more volume, so you can get 8-10 fritters out of the recipe instead of 6.
Tips and Tricks.
- Chop the chicken really small. If your chicken chunks are too big, the patties won’t stick together. They won’t cook evenly either. It’s very important to make sure the chicken pieces are dime size to pea size.
- Save time: use lean ground chicken instead of using chicken breast. The texture won’t be exactly the same, but the flavor will be just as good. And you’ll save plenty of time by not having to chop all of that chicken into small pieces.
- Save effort: Use a food processor to chop chicken if you have one. It will save you a good bit of time and effort doing it this way. And the clean up is way easier. Just make sure to stop the food processor before the chicken gets too fine. You don’t want a paste.

Notes
Do you think I could use ground chicken breast in this recipe? Thanks!
Yes I think so, it will be more of a burger style but still delicious 🙂
These look really good. Thinking about using ground chicken in my freezer.
I’m in Ontario as well – where are you finding Trader Joe’s LF cheese?
I cross the border to shop at TJ’s it is a U.S store only unfortunately
Made these tonight and oh wow!!! I used ground chicken breast and they were delicious!!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
So glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Will the uncooked mixture freeze alright? I’d like to freeze mixture & fry them fresh.
Go to Loblaws in their dairy section. If you’re concerned about quality (ie: organic), then check out their organics section, or any store that sells organic foods. If you’re not concerned about quality, then just grab a block of any low fat cheese.
Could you use ground chicken?
Yes I think so, will be slightly different in texture but still delicious 🙂
Do you think you could make these in an air fryer?
I think so, I was going to try it next time I make them .. If you try it let me know how they turn out please 🙂

Thanks
Tania
Hi the fritters are 1SP each on freestyle
Curious if anyone did make them with ground chicken and what they thought.?.?
Hopefully someone can give you some insight. I think they would be good, more like a burger 🙂
Excited to make these! When do we use the 3Tbsp of flour?
Sorry I forgot to add it in the instructions but it is with everything else as seen in the picture, I just updated it thanks for letting me know 🙂
The chicken fritters were delicious. What’s the difference between smart points and freestyle points. I wasn’t sure how many points the fritters were
Freestyle is still smartpoints however before freestyle it was smart points beyond the scale (WW should have changed it up to make it less confusing) so when I list both freestyle and smart points you want freestyle, the Sp is for people that still follow old smart points
Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now but this is my first time commenting. I’ve made many of your recipes (especially love the bubble ups, and now regularly customize my own!) but I have to say that this one was so incredibly delicious. I made some small flavor changes to use what I had at home (green onion instead of basil, a Mexican cheese blend instead of mozzarella, and added some bell pepper) but followed your technique exactly. They were scrumptious! My wife and I both enjoyed them for dinner and then for lunches throughout the week. We loved them with a squeeze of lime on top and a nice big green salad. My mom made them exactly as written and also loved them, with a squeeze of lemon in her case! She said she also wants to try my southwest-inspired version. Anyway. This is a very long comment but I just had to tell you and also thank you! Thanks so much for all of the inspiration your site gives.
Hi Savannah, Thank you so much for taking the time out (never complain about a long comment, I love reading them) it is always humbling to see the appreciation from my followers, so glad you all enjoyed the fritters and hope you continue to enjoy the recipes 🙂
Using 1/4 cup batter per fritter, how many fritters does this make?
Thank you!
Hi, the recipe states that it makes 6 fritters
