Cinnamon and apples have always been a perfect combo, but so have cinnamon and raisins. Why not put it all together in creamy yogurt for an afternoon treat. Apple yogurt salad is perfect for kids as well. Apples can be hard to eat for littles, but cut up into small pieces, and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg will have them asking for more. And there is no guilt in letting them have this every afternoon. You all will reap the healthy vitamins and minerals from the fruit as well as a little protein from the yogurt.

The great thing about a “salad” like this- you can make it your own. If you don’t like raisins or craisins, don’t worry you can leave them out. Substitute them for your favorite fresh fruit, or even a few white chocolate chips if you desire. Use the base measurements as a guideline to make this into the snack you’d love to eat.

Three reasons why you need to make Apple Yogurt Salad!

There are only two steps.

You’ve got to love a two-step recipe. It doesn’t get easier than that. Just chop the apples, and mix everything in a bowl. This recipe saves you time and energy by fueling your body with healthy carbs without much effort needed.

Different ways to change up this recipe:

  • Make this salad your own by adding your favorite seeds, nuts, or dried fruits. You could add freeze-dried strawberries – it would turn it slightly pink which could be used for a Valentine’s day party. You could add a sprinkle of Lily’s sugar-free chocolate chips if you’ve got a chocolate craving.
  • Roast nuts and seeds before adding them into the salad. You can either roast them in an oven heated to 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or toast them in a saute pan until slightly browned and aromatic. Roasting nuts and seeds brings out their amazing flavor.
  • You can use vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt for another flavor boost or simply add a few drops of vanilla extract. If you find you want your apple yogurt salad a bit sweeter, add a few packets of stevia into the yogurt before mixing in all the ingredients.
  • Double this recipe for a dinner party, and use it as a refreshing summer dessert. You can pretty up the presentation by serving spoonfuls in martini or cocktail glasses topped with a spring of mint leaf.
  • You could use a mixture of fresh blueberries and strawberries instead of apples for a 4th of July themed party. It’d be a perfect, healthy snack at the lake.

Tips and Tricks for Apple Yogurt Salad.

  • Pre-make this salad so that you’re eating it 1-2 days later. The flavors meld together overnight, enhancing the entire dish.
  • Soak the raisins and craisins in hot water for 15-20 minutes before using them in the salad. Make sure to drain them well afterward. The hot water plumps them up so they are juicy and flavorful.
  • Firm apples are best for this. Granny Smith apples are tart and firm and complement the sweetness you’ll get from the raisins and dried cranberries. A fuji or a pink lady would also be amazing. Red delicious apples tend to be a bit mushy, and would not sit well in the fridge. But, if you plan to eat it immediately, use the apple you like most.
  • This does not freeze well, so make sure to have it within 3-5 days of making it. It will keep in the fridge for about 5 days.
