There’s only about 2 tablespoons of sugar throughout the whole recipe- topping included. That means each donut is just one teaspoon of sugar, but you’d never know it! They are slightly sweet and very satisfying. You can feel great about eating them since they aren’t packed with sugar, and your kids can enjoy them too. Cinnamon Cake Donuts would also be perfect for a weekend brunch. Brunch is fun, but is often packed with high calorie foods and drinks. By making cinnamon cake donuts, you have something you can contribute while also ensuring you’re sticking with your diet goals. Everyone will love them!

Three reasons why you need to make this recipe!

Cinnamon Sugar is a classic flavor.

Cinnamon adds a natural balance to the sweetness of sugar, so you don’t have to pack on the sugar to get a lot of flavor out of these donuts. They are delicious with just a little sugar added.

They’re great for a mid afternoon pick me up.

Pair a cinnamon cake donut with a hot cup of tea or coffee, and you’ve got a chill afternoon ahead of you. Sit back and relax with one of these sweet treats to refuel your body and mind.

Baked donuts are much lower in fat than fried donuts.

These donuts have 0 grams of fat and 0 grams of saturated fat. It’s amazing that they still taste so good! Compared to a Krispy Kreme (5 grams of saturated fat) or Dunkin Donuts donut (6 grams of saturated fat), these cinnamon cake donuts are very healthy.

Tips and Tricks for Making Cinnamon Cake Donuts:

  • I only counted points for ½ Tbsp sugar for the topping as you will have leftover mix. I personally only used half of the sugar cinnamon mix, but you can try and use all of it if you prefer, or put more into the batter.
  • If you don’t keep cake mix in the house, you can increase the all purpose flour and just use that instead. But the cake mix does add a nice sweetness as well as a cake like texture. I always have a box in the pantry and if you seal it, it will keep well for other baked goodies.
